News from Pastor Obanda - February 2, 2008
Dear Brother Steve,
Greetings in Jesus most precious name. My family and those I work with in the ministry are all safe but in great difficulties and needs.
As you see daily in your televisions, disturbances are still going on in Kenya and the situation right now is too bad. Killings are all over, about 300 people have died in the past three days including the assasination of the member of parliament of Embakasi constituency. This killings has made things to be most worse we are not able to travel from one city to the other. Getting foods and money is too hard. The displaced women and children number is increasing daily in our church.
As i had shared to you last time we have more than 90 women and children who were displaced and now camping in our church depending on us for foods and other humanitarian helps. But the number has increased as the things get bad to worse. We had raised only 15 blankets to help the few but the rest are sleeping in cold. We have spent all the foods we had on them, now what we are remaining with two bags of foods we can only give out one meal aday and in three days from now this foods will be finished completely
This is what we need and their prices:
- 120 blankets - one blankets @ $ 18
- 10 bags of rice - one bag @ $ 42
- 10 bags of beans - one bag @ $ 50
- 100 litres of cooking fats - one litre @ $5
- 1000 bars of soaps - one bar soap @ $3
- Medicines - here we cannot give you exactly amount
These displaced people have been sleeping in cold for 30 days. None has used a blanket since the day this problem occurred in Kenya all their properties were burnt down to ashes together with their houses or homes. They have been chased away from their home by the opposition side. They can not go back to their homes or families until the government will be incontrol. The police are unable to control the situation and just stand there watching helplessly as people kill others who did not vote for them. There are fake roadblocks everywhere and when you reach there you identify yourself and if found that you are from the opposition side you will be killed.
Most of the people are camping in the churches and in police stations. In our place people respect churches they dont attack in the churches as they did in Eldoret in Rift Valley where they burnt churches and all the people that had taken refuge in it.
If God will provide the above things, we will be able take care well for these Gods people until things cool down.
God bless you.
